Plywood - Plywood was the first type of engineered wood to be invented. It is made from thin sheets of wood veneer, called plies, which are stacked together with the direction of each ply's grain differing from its neighbors by 90° (cross-banding).

Straw marquetry - Straw marquetry is a craft very similar to that of wood marquetry except that straw replaces the wood veneer. It is thought to have first been practised in the east; examples were brought to England in the 17th century.
